We have lift off!

The book has launched! On July 11th a great group of family, friends, colleagues, and other scoundrels converged on Harlem East to celebrate the launch of Keep it Beautiful! The love and support in the room were overwhelming. Delicious food was had, drinks were drunk, music was played, dances were danced, and books were signed.

A HUGE thank you to all who attended, and to those who helped spread the word about the launch, including the incomparable Tightrope Books and Taddle Creek magazine who blew up the  twittersphere with launch promo and helped make the evening a great success.

My favourite boys of all time, The Roughnotes, rocked the room with covers and originals that actually had folks dancing at a book launch—no mean feat, as any avid book launch attendee can attest to.

Overall, the event constituted a lovely birth for my little book. I'm not sure that my thanks to everyone who has been involved in the creation of Keep it Beautiful can ever be fully expressed, but I was incredibly happy to be able to share the spotlight with some fantastic people at the launch. I'd say it takes a village to publish a book, but that analogy would only be apt if 90% of the folks in villages went totally unseen. I want to take every opportunity I can to thank the amazing people who made this book a reality. Sometimes it's easy to forget that writing doesn't make a book. Writing makes a story, and the rest is up to the supportive and fantastic editors, project managers, designers, publicists, sales people and so many others who work behind the scenes.

Thank you, thank you, and thank you again.

Enjoy these photos of the event, and please forgive the varying quality. They come from several different cameras.
